How the Great Masters used Color-Exploring Color Theory

  • Amanda Layre's Fine Art Studio 33 Union Street Doylestown, PA, 18901 United States (map)

Color theory is one of the most fundamental areas of painting, as it helps us understand the relationship between colors and how we perceive them.

In this 7-week course, you will gain a clear understanding of how to mix new colors from the primaries, how to identify colors in paintings, photos, or real life, and mix paints to match any color.

First, you will create a color wheel and learn about primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

We will study famous paintings and learn from the masters how to create visually harmonious paintings using methods such as monochromatic, complementary, analogous, and other chromatic schemes.

Each week, you will create a small, simple painting that demonstrates one single aspect of color theory put in practice.

This hands-on approach ensures you develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in color harmony.

I encourage you to purchase your materials.

Here is a link to all the materials that you will need for this course and the projects that we will create.
